Amanda Nunes Targets July Return to Reclaim Bantamweight Title: 'Kayla Harrison, Get Your S—t Together!'
Amanda Nunes is pushing for a title fight during International Fight Week in July, as she waits for champion Kayla Harrison to recover from neck surgery.
Nunes Ready, Waiting on Harrison
Amanda Nunes has made her intentions clear: she wants her UFC bantamweight title back, and she has a specific date in mind. The former champion has been in a holding pattern while current titleholder Kayla Harrison recovers from neck surgery, which forced Harrison to withdraw from their previously scheduled UFC 324 matchup.
Efforts to reschedule the bout for the UFC White House card also fell through, leaving Nunes without a confirmed fight date. Despite the uncertainty, she says she has remained active in the gym throughout.
Maintaining Camp Momentum
Speaking to MMA Junkie, Nunes explained that after the first training camp ended without a fight, she scaled back intensity but never stopped training. She has since ramped things up again and says she is ready whenever Harrison gets the green light.
"I'm waiting on her. And when she is 100%, we're gonna make this happen," Nunes said.
International Fight Week in Her Sights
Nunes pointed to International Fight Week on July 11 as her preferred date, adding that she believes the UFC shares that preference. Whether the fight will officially land on that card has not yet been confirmed.
As for the rest of the women's bantamweight division, Nunes was straightforward: she is only interested in fighting for the undisputed championship and has no plans to take interim or non-title bouts.
Sharp Mind, Strong Body
Nunes described herself as physically and mentally in a great place, crediting her family as a source of motivation. Her message to Harrison was blunt and direct: "Kayla Harrison, get your s—t together. Let's go!"
